ABOUT
COBURG PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB
We are a vibrant, welcoming photography club based in the Merri-Bek council area and meet twice a month in the McCrae Blackburn meeting room at the Coburg library for photo competitions and workshops. One of our aims is to welcome, encourage and nurture new members, especially novice photographers.

Our photo competitions cover a wide range of club chosen topics. Entries are divided into experienced and novice sections with judging and feedback from external, qualified judges who are often professional photographers. The judges usually also give a presentation about their own area of photographic expertise. Competition nights are fun, illuminating and instructive whether you have submitted entries or are just observing.

Our workshops will give you insights, knowledge and ideas from experienced club members and outside experts on a wide range of photographic topics.

We also conduct photo excursions, produce an informative and interesting monthly newsletter and arrange an annual long weekend away.

Coburg Photography Club is a member of the Victorian Association of Photographic Societies Inc and participates in VAPS’ activities including its annual competition and exhibition.

Details of our meetings and activities, and examples of members’ work and recent newsletters can be accessed on this website and our Facebook page (Coburg Photography Club). You can contact the Club at contact.coburgphotographyclub@gmail.com, or, even better, come to a club night and meet us.
Visitors are always most welcome.

HISTORY OF THE
COBURG PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB
The Coburg Photography Club was formed over 30 years ago, originally as The Royal Melbourne Zoo Camera Club. Membership was open only to employees of the Zoo, and the club met in the Education Resource Centre of the Zoo. In 1984, membership was opened to families of Zoo employees, and friends of the Zoo. Due to copyright and intellectual property issues, the name of the club was changed to the Parkville Photographic Club in 1996, although zoo facilities continued to be used for meetings.
In late 2001, use of the Zoo facilities became unavailable, and the club meetings were moved to the Maurice McCrae Blackburn meeting room at the Coburg Library. At that time, as the club was no longer affiliated with the Parkville area, the members made the decision to rename the club the Parklands Photographic Club.
The club held yearly interclub competitions with the Broadmeadows Camera Club until that club ceased operating, and since 2003 we have held an annual interclub competition with the Preston Photographic Club.
In 2018 the club changed it's name to the Moreland Camera Club and then again in 2022 to Coburg Photography Club to identify the Club with its present geographical base and due to the council name change to Merri-Bek. Today, the club has an active and energetic membership, who continue to meet in the Maurice McCrae Blackburn room of the Coburg Library on the second and fourth Thursday of each Month.
